What to pack for a yacht charter in India

The genuinely useful list — sun protection, footwear, motion sickness and the small things people always forget.

A short, genuinely useful list rather than a generic travel checklist — what actually matters for a yacht charter on the Indian coast.

Definitely bring

Sun protection is the one thing nobody packs enough of — reflection off the water roughly doubles your sun exposure compared to being on land, even on a cloudy day.

  • Sunscreen, reapplied — reflection off the water makes burning fast
  • A hat and sunglasses with a retainer strap
  • A light layer for after sunset, once the wind picks up
  • A change of clothes if any water sports are planned
  • Motion sickness tablets, taken an hour before boarding if you are prone to it

Leave at home

Hard-soled shoes and heels, which damage the deck and are usually asked to come off anyway. Anything you would be genuinely upset to lose overboard — the sea has a way of taking sunglasses and phones during the excitement of a swim stop.

For families with children

Bring your own child-size sun hat and rash guard even though life jackets are provided — supervision matters more than gear, so plan for one adult per child near the water at all times.

One habit worth adopting

Put your phone and anything else you cannot get wet in a dry bag or a zip-lock before boarding, not after someone asks you to. A splash on deck is more common than people expect, even on a calm day.
